I dontthink it's fair to put those from other seasons in (Billy, Alex, etc..) let the newbies run the show because the ones from previous season are majorly known and popular! I hope Kent goes realllly far. he is an amazing dancer. he can do all sorts! (hip hop..he's a beast...jazz..lyrical..tap..ballet..ballroom) and plus he has a great personality! PLEASE VOTE FOR HIM! AND REPLY TO ME WHAT YOU THINK!!!!!!

It would be a travesty to NOT have Alex & Billy on the show. They are two phenomenal dancers - they absolutely have earned the right to be there.. did their solos in vegas not show you that? As far as I could see they set the standard of what to expect.
Kent is incredible and I'm looking forward to what he can do but Alex & Billy are certainly going to be top contenders - don't disregard that.

I'm so bummed about the hip hop situation! Really? Melinda and Lauren Froderman were the standouts for the judges in hip hop? It is so annoying how they edit the way they want the audience to perceive. Notice how they didn't show them doing the hip hop on stage full out next to other dancers? I guess this means that Lauren and Melinda are the best of the girls that they cast for the show, in hip hop, but I am confident they were not the strongest of that group in Vegas! The manipulation is irritating!

I've heard people complain that Comfort is not strong enough to be considered an all star for the show, but keep in mind...since they didn't cast any true, authentic, hip hop dancers for the show...Comfort is going to definitely look like an all star next to the contestants!

Weak ballroom and no hip hop...I am disappointed in the casting! All the dancers will look great and it will be entertaining because the choreography will be suited to the dancers they are working with, but that's not how the show first started! I miss seeing the dancers struggle to be authentic in different dance styles, and I miss seeing some of them not pull it off at all...because that's reality!

so, 4/5 or 5/6 contemp'ry-ish for boys in the new stars + 4/6 contemp'ry-ish girls from all stars. at least you will get 2 contmpry-is coupls every week here.

and 3/6 the all star boys are contemp'ry-ish with 4/6 new star girls being contemp'ry-sih, at least one contemp'ry couple here.

15/20 or 16/21 contmep'ry-sh dancers. that is very over represented. I like the way they do it here in Aus, in terms of casting.

i can't believe that ryan ramirez didn't make the cut! i thought i saw her name on the top ten list a while back!! :S :S i must have been mistakened! It's really a huge pity though. she would have been so awesome on the show. :( :(

After seeing Ade's solo, I'm sorry to say Robert might be the fodder, very sad.
The girls are decent compared to last season (Mollee, Noelle, Pauline). Solid training is always good. But they are all jazz dancers and we've seen jazz before (in fact nothing but jazz). If Nigel wants diversity, he had a chance with Jacelyne Orle, who can pull off contemporary ballet and modern (something Alexie A. can't), and maybe Ryan Ramirez.

Gaahh, I was rooting for Bridget Krouse all the way. But LoFro is amazing. She's just definitely not a "newbie" as the show has been suggesting though. She's trained at Dance Connection for years, and also has ties to Initial Existence(the company Kaitlyn Conley and Alexa Anderson belong to) under the direction of Dana Metz and Natasha Louis. She's also worked with Mandy Moore and has a few national titles if I'm not mistaken (and I think one of these alleged titles comes from NUVO). She's incredibly talented, but I don't like how the show is misrepresenting her. At her LA audition they opened with her saying "I'm a cheerleader, and my friend told me these auditions were down the street from our competition so I thought I'd check it out." And while she may be a cheerleader, they're making her look like some girl that just decided to do this on a whim. Good luck to her though.

I get that Ryan has a reputation of excellence behind her, but if she continues to dance through Vegas the same way she did in her audition it's understandable why she wasn't chosen for top 10

Apparently, one of the requirements for making Top10 this year is that you got really close last year before they cut you.

Kent and Lauren are the two newbies they cast, and I think they're both excellent! They were both bubbly and cute, and that's what personality they were casting. Ryan is definitely more shy and internal, but she is also really friendly and sweet...they were casting a formula for a show and Ryan didn't fit the formula this season! Hopefully next season they'll take a chance on an artist who isn't goofy, and cutesy...I think as an audience we would find that refreshing :) I love Lauren and Kent though...I just wish they'd made room for Ryan too!!! Next year...if she auditions again.

I not knocking her, and I'm not agreeing she shouldn't be in the top 10, what I was saying is most of the time they are looking for contestants that do a lot of tricks and have a lot of bells and whistles not necessarily the best or most well rounded soloist. From what I saw last night, if that is the same level she dances at all the way through Vegas I understand why she doesn't make it over some of the more bubbly showmen like Alexie and Lauren.

I agree with you about Alexie and Lauren. They have that 'perky factor' going over Ryan. I'm envisioning stage moms in the wings shouting "come on, sell it. SELLLLLL ITTTTT!"
And then they put on the perma-smile and win over people like Schenkman, who starts getting weepy if a girl is overweight or if a guy is deaf.
Opinion: He had it in his mind he was going to be harder on Ryan, I think, due to her background, and the reputation that preceeded her.

I can't believe there's only one tapper! And I agree with the fellow posters who thought all of the tappers got robbed last year too.

Really surprised at some of the people who didn't make the cut. I'm not a fan of all the SYTYCD changes. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And bring back the smaller stage!!

this season sucks i really hate that there is only 11 contestants that is not enough at all...with only 5 girls and 6 guys you can't really grab onto certain ones as your favorite b/c there isn't enough to choose from.

i really wanted lexie and ryan to make it and now i am just kinda bummed and don't really care anymore. if it were a top 20 they both would have made it. i hate it when shows change the rules i think it is retarded i mean i know last season wasn't that great so they are trying to do something different but the only reason last season suffered was b/c it was in the fall. ughh i am almost angry at SYTYCD b/c they changed WAY too much this season.

also about this whole all star thing i like the idea i guess but i think if they were gonna do all stars it sould have been like an all star season with just all stars that the fans voted on their favs to come back and comp. to find the best of the best. the way they have it set up this season i think is pointless and stupid and will take away from the contestants actually competing this season. and with the group they chose its a big mistake b/c the contestants seem really lame.

Since thie beginning it has been 20...when American Idol changed there format...it really hurt there ratings. I think it will hurt SYTYCD and there ratings as well...Bring back the 20 contestants next season....

She is, at 18, already more impressive (IMO) than any of the girls they kept in their Top 5. Looking at it from afar, it seems fairly obvious that Mia being a regular judge (instead of a guest judge, as some other mentors have done in the past) affected Ryan not making it this year.

You say downthread that Mia being on the panel had nothing to do with it? Was that one of the producers who told you that? Or somebody else involved in the selection process?

If so, they would have a vested interest in wanting you to believe that.

If not, I'm looking forward to seeing what she did during auditions to lose her spot. She is too talented for politics not to have played a part in that decision (again, IMO).

I aggree with you 100%. first off, after watching ryans solo tonight, I didnt quite understand why the judges could not "connect with her", she was amazing and i thought her dancing was incredible. But thats my opinion. Second, I can not believe she did not make it in the top 10! ( again in my opinion) The only girl on that list that i actually like was Alexie, the others were just so so in my opinion. The boys all seem great but I do not think they did very good at picking the girls this time. But who knows I can not really judge until I have seen vegas!

What 'reality' , Trandrew? It's obvious that they had an agenda for the show long before the audtions even started. The level or kind of talent that they saw had nothing to do with who was chosen. I am so disappointed in this show since season 6; I never agreed 100% with evry thing they did... I mean, its an art form, so no 1 will ever agree with it all. But until season 5, I really thought they were trying to develop dance talent and really choose 'Americas Favourite Dancer'. I think I wont watch anymore.

Wow, the boys list is very homogenous. Don't like that. Billy Bell has something that really grabs me, but the rest of those contemporary guys are kind of a blur to me. I personally liked Adrian Lee better than Robert Roldan. Oh well. Hope Jose Ruiz can stick around. I wish there was more diversity. They *REALLY* should have put a male ballroom dancer in there. Sad, sad, sad not to see that.

It seems like the quality & importance of ballroom dancing is getting lighter & lighter on this show from last year. Until S4, there was always somebody phenomenal (both boy&girl) in ballrom remaining for a long time which led to great partnering and high quality latin routines. From last year, there are dancers who cannot do ballroom as it should be (especially latin) staying so long. Now, there isn't a single ballroom dancer in the final top11 from the beginning. Will contemporary be the best routine of every night again?

I agree with you. In my opinion season 3 had fantastic ballroom routines because there were 4 ballroom/latin dancers that year (Fiana, Lacey, Pasha, Anya). Having said that, i honestly think all the ballroom routines this year wil be quality because each contestant will be paired with either Pasha or Anya. I think that will help. I do love my ballroom dancers though and if you think about it, they usually include at least two ballroom/lating numbers per episode therefore they should have more ballroom dancers.

It's really unfortunate that there are no ballroom dancers, ballroom is such a huge genre of dance all around the world and yet it is consistently under represented.

Not a single hip hop dancer? That's surprising; I thought for sure they'd have at least one. Other than that, I'm a little sad Ryan didn't make it in (really, they should make it an even 12 contestants if they're adding an extra boy), but glad to see Alex and Billy made the cut.

Overall, pretty happy with the list. I hope Jose is good at other styles, seeing as he is the only non-contemporary boy. (I am for talent over diversity, but I would like a good mix, at least for the first half of the season). Does anyone know what stage the judges will lose control at? I'm guessing around top 5. And will it be a bottom 2 or 3 or...?

You think the s7 tappers were treated badly? You should have seen how they treated the tapper from season 1. Sandra Colton was apparently a good contemporary dancer as well--not that we ever got to see that. Nigel then promptly forgot Sandra along with the rest of season 1's dancers.

the only people screwed in season 6 were the kids that were forced to partner the tappers.

I'm bummed they would put a tapper on over a ballroom or hip hop dancer or even another phenominal contemporary dancer, because since the show doesn't do tap...then she is just taking the place of another awesome dancer who is GREAT at one of the dance styles the dancers actually perform! I love great tap, but there is NO tapper that is better at contemporary, hip hop or ballroom, then dancers where those are their strengths! I think it is stupid to push for tappers on teh show unless they are going to add tap as a style that's performed!!! Especially with only a total of ten dancers on teh show this season!

I don't think you guys should worry about Melinda. She's not just a tapper, but she's definitely trained WELL in other things as well. Before auditioning, she and Ashley Galvan worked on Wonderland, a new musical choreographed by Marguerite Derricks. Marguerite is a technique QUEEN.

And as far as her tapping goes, she's a little legendary as well. Better than all three of the tappers from last season. If any tap dancer deserves to be on this show, it's her. Trust me.

I'm really nervous because I think as soon as Mia took Mary's place on the judging panel then Ryan was screwed out of her chance on the show! I hope I'm wrong, but I just have a bad feeling! It would be such a shame because I heard from people who were there that she totally blew everyone away with her improv in LA and then with her hip hop in Vegas...Most of te dancers who know and who were in Vegas say that she totally killed it and that she was the girl everyone was talking about...it will be the shows loss and the audiences loss if we don't get to see her unique and innovative style on the show this season!!!

i really happy that Alex has been chosen, I don't think there's a single person out there that thinks that he doesn't deserve to make it into the "Top 'whatever-Nigel-decides'"
Personally, I'd like to see him win and I'm ecstatic that he's being recognized as "ballet." (although those of us who are familiar with his background know he really started off at jazz and tap, but has found A LOT of success in ballet.) If you have seen his youtube posts you will know that Alex can truly dance all styles including hip hop...i'm most excited to see if he can really tackle ballroom!

also, he was indeed very good at tap, and he considered it his strongest suit until he quit at 15 to pursue ballet.

since Alex negotiated to have his contract at MCB terminated so he could have a leave of absence and audition for s7, do you know if he will return to the company after SYTYCD?

he didn't negotiate to have his contract terminated. he simply chose not to renew for the next season which basically means he quit after this season was over.

i don't know if there's an open invitation for him to come back after SYTYCD but if edward villela lets him he might. i think alex wanted to audition for other companies and try out for other things if anything though.

The only two people i wanted to see on the show have made it, Christina and Alex. I don't care for anyone else so completely happy. Combined with some of my favourite dancers of all time, Lauren, Neil, Pasha, Twitch and Dominic - super excited for this season.

I think people should stop complaining about so you think being too contemporary based. Everyone went through the sane audition and the best dancers got through. If contemporary dominates, then so be it. And honestly, every person who won, or shpild have won was contemporary. Ie. Nick, Travis, Danny, katie, J9, Jacob all best on season. Of course kayla, ade, lauren, and jamie were standouts as well. Not only on contemprary but everything!!

Kayla was definitely on of the biggest standouts in S5, she killed everything, there was just that one broadway, but that was Joey's fault.

IMO katee wasnt the one that should have won. I dont like Joshua, but there was Chelsie, and she was awesome most of the performances. Better than katee, imo.

I agree. i loved both katee and chelsie but Chelsie definitely should have won: she was an amazing dancer in every single style and she had a lot of charisma.

Jamie was a stand out in everything? I remember her sucking badly at Hip Hop and Ballroom. She was only good at contemporary and jazz.

anyway, jaimie was extremely underrated in her season. i believe wholeheartedly that if she had a different partner (i love hok btw but he didn't do her any favors), she would have gone much further in the competition. not to mention she got screwed over with boring dances early on (that broadway? waltz?). and that godawful viennese doble sealed her fate. she WORKED that hiphop by the way, so saying she "sucked badly" is severely misguided.

and i'm not picking fights. i'm just stating facts about what you brought up. you said jaimie sucked badly. why don't you rewatch those clips and see what the judges actually said to jaimie. they always had nice things to say about her. sure, they might've been a little critical on her samba, but they still said she did okay. correct me if i'm wrong but they didn't say she "sucked badly." that is the point i was getting across.

jaimie's one of my close friends so it's natural that i stick up for her. it's the lack of a valid argument behind these strongly negative comments that triggers my responses. nothing else.

I never said Jaime sucked all together. Infact she was a great contemporary dancer and some of her solos are some of my favourites but truth is i think she SUCKED at other styles and only produced one quality routine on the entire show (which was the jazz, which was a combination of her technique, Hok's technique and Wade Robsons genius choreo).

Truth is Andrew or whatever, she's your mate, i said something negative about her dancing and you decided to get all up in arms about it.

you're totally right. i remember nigel and mary getting on toni's case about trying to do a spanish/flamenco inspired viennese waltz and it just totally falling flat.

i saw someones "tweet" that said something like "look out world for ashley g. and ryan r., I am so proud of them" and I think mollee gray retweeted it. Idk, but that might mean something about them being in the top 11.

Well, at least they are *trying* to create some diversity amongst the girls. Glad to see the show giving tappers another chance. Excited to see what Christina Santana can do. Still hoping to see Ryan Ramirez in. Very glad to have Billy Bell back. I am looking forward to watching him try a variety of styles. But I still fervently hope Nigel is just toying with us and Alex Wong is that 11th contestant.

IMO it's pretty lame that anybody can tell by looking at the top 24 list who without a doubt will make it. If you are not a contemp/jazz/ballet dancer, yeah, you are in. LOL Sorry, all the complaining about ~diversity gets on my nerves. Call me crazy, but I'm all about quality over ~diversity. Which is funny because most dancers on the show actually are trained in multiple genres (even if they don't admit it ;), so the ~diversity stuff is lame AND doesn't make any sense. Yeah, yeah, I know I'm in the minority here. w/e.

You're abolutely right Lucy. I think the show should add a new category for "all arounders" and let them do their solo in whatever style they want to. Making them stick to one style is lame.

I think most dancers wouldn't admit having trained in multiple genres, only if directly asked. Just remember what happened with Russell...

It's an advantage to make people think you are a poor poor whatever boy having to dance a genre you have never seen. And it's amazing how most viewers believe in it! When in fact 99% of the dancers know so many genres it's not even funny. And I'm not criticizing at all! Quite the opposite, I'm all about quality and contemp-and-everything-else dancers. lol It just makes me mad when people start bitching about ~diversity when it means they just fell for the 'poor poor' BS.

When they try to go too out of the box they are criticized. I think Jaymz? He was a "jazz dancer" in the program. But he did a paso doble solo...he was eliminated by the judges. lol People always criticize the show for lack of diversity, but what they really want is mediocre dancers struggling *cough SYTYCD Canada cough DWTS cough*.

People like Jaymz (the majority of the dancers on the program) are trained in tap, ballroom and hip hop. Hell, I would like to know if any, ANY contemp, ballet or jazz dancer in the show didn't know tap. It makes me crazy the "oh, there is a tapper here!". Whatever, almost all of them are also tappers. BS. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person I know who trained ballet and jazz, but doesn't know tap at all. lol

I don't know about that. Asuka was criticized for doing a non-ballroom solo and I believe was eliminated.

I don't get why it's top 11 and not 12 i mean might as well put another extra girl in there, and then it would equal the number of All Stars.

My guess: somebody at Fox wanted the show expanded another week because of some scheduling thing (my gut tells me it has something to do with that planned series about the "Glee" online auditions).

I sincerely hope that Alex Wong makes it. Nothing against Billy Bell. I really loved what I saw of Billy last year. But, Alex Wong also really impressed me. I'd love to see both of them on the show. Hopefully Alex is indeed that 11th contestant. Nigel might come close to breaking my heart if he isn't in.

OKay it is pretty obvious alex wong made it, nigel wouldnt go out of his way stressing that one of them didnt make the top 10 thus making it a top 11 to 'shock' us.

I love Alex 2, but its not fair to make up new rules for certain people. I'd love 2 see a few other people who were cut in Vegas on the show. How bout a top 12 or 14 or 16?

There's no indication that Alex is the 6th boy. The order of these spoilers does not pertain to the order they were chosen. I think it's impossible to judge who the sixth boy was, and although they might make it seem like someone is the sixth on TV, it may not even have been that way.

I would also love a Top 12 just to make it fairer on the girls side since there were so many amazing ones in the Top 24, but I heard it will only be 11. 14/16 is stretching it just due to the number of all stars available, money, and FOX's locked schedule.

Does it matter who it is? They still changed the rules 4 1 person. That's not fair. The show is losing credability when the producers do stuff like this. Their are other people who didn't even get 1 fair shot.

If that was a problem most of the dancers wouldn't be in...I mean Kayla was BFree's assistant. And Lauren was Tyce's assistant ON the show for season 2 right before her own season. It won't be a problem at all. :o)

Thats a bit crap considering when Will was on Debbie Alan wasnt allowed to judge. Why is it different for Mia/Ryan?

ryan is simply an assistant. she helps demonstrate choreography at conventions. that is no where near the relationship debbie and will had. debbie mentored will and brought him up dance-wise.
