one thing that i think is interesting is that Russell was promoted as a dancer with no training because he went to school for at least 1 year at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and he deffinitely took technique classes. so thanks sytycd for effectively skewing the results and creating a persona for russell that would get him votes.
  • Ginny
    Congrats Russell!!

I agree, this season's flow was really weird... I loved the top 20 though and if it were in the summer then it would have worked out better, for sure! It was just way too rushed, and choppy, and the stage stank, and I really miss the rotating 3rd judge. Too many changes for what could have been a really amazing season.. but it missed the mark a bit.. not for lack of talent and personalities though.

  • 08paula
Wow, "Congratulations Season 6"? Really?? I mean, it's your site, Trandrew, so of course you're free to support/promote the dancer of your choice. But to not be able to choke out "Congratulations Russell"??? And try to take away from Russell a little more with the tweet about Jeanine "dominates"?? Based on a poll on your little site that is devoted to All Things Jeanine? And the clique-ish little passwords for the spoilers?? Jeanine and Jakob seem like very nice people. You could learn a thing or two from them about being gracious, win or lose. A real class act you've got for yourself here, Trandrew & Company.
    Yeesh. Buh-bye.
  • Dancedancekj
Maybe people really just like Jeanine and Jakob. More than Russell. I know I did, and I know I liked Jeanine the most out of any other winner. Lots of people thought last season that the right person won SYTYCD, finally. So take that into consideration.
And maybe you shouldn't visit the site if you're going to falsely accuse and shout at the staff at sytycdism just because it doesn't fit your viewpoint of the competition. They do a lot of work, and although can't help being partisan sometimes with a "Team Jakob" here and there, they do their jobs really well and you are being very disrespectful coming in here and making personal attacks.
  • cdance
Dancedancekj well said.08Paula, if you get that mad about this site, don't visit it. The authors do a fantastic amount of hard work for us. If you don't appriciate it, get out.
  • sytycdism
Ever think that maybe when this post was made the video wasn't up or
we weren't aware of it? Geez and we are not responsible for the poll
results. We were just reporting what the results were.

Doesn't seem like we are the poor sports.

  • thankyou
    Thanks SYTYCDISM!

Even though didn't really like this season, I LOVED the dancers (especially Jakob and Ellenore), but I felt that they weren't really showcased well this season. The huge stage, Top 6, no solos in finale, no intro packages in later weeks, etc. etc. I'm sure this is just a consequence of a fall season though. No matter what, I'm proud of all of the dancers, and I'm sure all of them are going to go far!

A huge component of how I enjoy this show is due to you guys at SYTYCDISM. Thanks so much for putting in the effort and time to allows support the fans. You guys got a lot of flak this season, but I hope you guys know that you'll always have fans and supporters who are incredibly appreciative of all you guys do! Thanks! :)
  • it sucks that pauline, bianca, and noelle wasn't shown as much in the results show lol.
  • I believe this season was amazing. There were so many noteworthy performances throughout the season that kept America yearning for the following week’s performances and choreography; only talented dancers and performers can accomplish such a task weekly.

Russell’s win can be explained through many explanations, however, I believe his talent and diversity as a dancer and performer is what captured the eyes and hearts of many viewers. Remember, this competition is not called Who Is The Best Dancer, it’s, So You Think You Can Dance. All the finalists can certainly dance, leaving one to question, “well whose dancing do I like more”?

Whether contemporary, crunk, bboy, ballet, or Latin ballroom, all these dancers are ‘technical’ in there own right, it’s which technicality do you prefer to look at week after week and within which persona. This time it was a crunking, hip hop dancer with a skill to assume a diverse set of dancing techniques, once exposed, which matured his dancing throughout the competition.
  • All the folks at SYTYCDism do a great job of keeping us fanatics informed up to the second--thanks so much for all you add to the total SYTYCD experience!
  • hijamia13
Is a Dwight-Desmond choreo a "curse"? Look at Season 4's Katee and Will. Kathryn and Jakob were this season's best dancers. But the price of it would not be winning. Though Kathryn should've won. (This is merely an observation, not necessarily true.) =)
  • lilCfan
    I don't think it's the D-D choreo that's the curse, it's the pre-season narrative.
Katie lost because she was poisoned by the judges' initial re-decision.

Kathryn's pre-top20 selection interview painted her as a squeaky weeper even before they chose her.
  • hxwhoa
what do you mean by "the judges' initial re-decision"?
  • Ryan
Thank you! that live chat was great! We all want to know the insiders view of the show and you gave us that. Really cool!
  • Dana
I'm still flummoxed by Russell's win. It's not like I DIDN'T want him to win I just can't understand HOW he did.
Jakob was consistent perfection. Did he even have a poor performance?
Kathryn and Ellenore were fabulous as well. And, if it's a matter of personality outshining technical skills, then Legacy should have taken the crown.
    But Russell?
He didn't have the electric personality, the mad skills or even the wow factor from week to week. I honestly don't remember any of his dances as standouts.
That said, I still loved the season. It was the first season that I adored a large number of dancers rather than just one or two. I honestly would have been happy with any of four winners: Jakob, Kathryn, Ellenore and Legacy.
So, despite the unhappy ending, I'll remember it as a great season.
  • Russell has charisma to burn, mad skills in his style and the ability to adapt and entertain enough voters to put him over the top. No need to diss him because your favorite didn't win. ALL the dancers were amazing. I am a Legacy fan myself. The fact that he didn't make top6 doesn't mean I'm going to run down any of the dancer who did.
  • natkatsopmai
Totally agree. I still can't get how it happened. I think Jakob and Kathryn took votes from each other. It must have been very close. It is still annoying me how he was sold as this untrained dancer when he stated he was trained at audition. None of his routines are in my head. On a side note Nathan was outstanding in that Bollywood last night that was the best unexpected pick rock on Tyce.
  • marycos
Mary pointed out the Joy that pores from Russell when he dances. That joy is infectious - and got people to pick up the phones.
I loved all top 6. Couldn't pick one (can't vote anyway).
Well done Russell!! And congrats to the other 5 too.
  • Kev
Honestly - Blake is a hater, beacause he didn't win. And except Sabra's and Benji's win I agree with America. Nick, Joshua, Jeanine and Russell deserve the win.

Jakob might be a technical superstar, but we see those moves all the time. He just does them better. There wasn't much originality - just excellent dancing. Russell on the other hand was totally original and captivated the crowd. He's a star as Nigel said. I agree with Mary as well: his growth far exceeded anyone else on season 6 and in all the seasons put together. Russell deserved to win, no doubt about that. So calm down and stop hating.
  • cynthia
It's weird how Russell got injured and was jumping around when he was named winner. was hoping for jakob or ellenore! for some reason this season didn't really flow well for me. the dancers were amazing. but i wish sytycd will go back to the summers, back on the regular stage, and back to the 4 person finale. some of the judges choices for dances were a lil not the best, i didn't think kathryn and russell's hip hop wasn't the best of the season. the background of the stage of the kodak theater is sometimes to much when the dancers are dancing..it kind of blocks them out sometimes and can't really focus on the dancers..its a great stage for a finale but not for the other weeks..

    just my thoughts!
  • cdance
Yes, I beleive that the "moment" after Russell won, he wasn't even thinking about his injury, he was so excited.

I TOTALLY AGREE w you about the old stage, 4 person finale, summer shows and i also want a rotating third judge. I love adam, don't get me wrong at all, i just think a different third judge every week gets me excited, and adds a different spice to each and every episode, for example, I missed lil Cs brilliant comments. :(
O, i'm not 100% sure, but i think they ARE moving back to summer, I would assume that because they are starying s 7 auditions in January, the same time as they started them for s 5, and they were talking about having a joint tour, including s 6 and s7 next fall.

I especially agree w you about the old stage and the background though, i've been saying that very thing all season, it's just plain distracting from teh dancers if there's ginormous numbers coming at the dancers during their solos. :( the old stage also felt very open to the audience, making the whole feel of it like the audience could be included, and it wouldn't be just a stage show. AND the 4 person finale, i think they may have just cut that bc of christmas. maybe, hopefully? ALSO why was the performance show only an hour long? it felt so rushed and, at emotional parts, it felt so unemotional because they were already onto the next thing... I loved the dancers this season, though!! I just wished some things would go back to teh way they were seasons 1-5. cross your fingers somehow, and some way, nigel gets ahold of these words. :) (PS i still LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the show...:))
  • td072400
I'm sure Russell was medicated after his injury. Also, when he won, his adrenal glands produced a surge of chemicals - pumped him up AND those chemicals are powerful antiinflammatory agents. No conspiracy. Just basic anatomy and physiology.
  • emem85
THANK YOU! Gah, you don't have to be a biology major like me to know that if you were injured but told you won 250,000 bucks and the title that the adrenaline rush and pure excitement of the moment would be enough....honestly i think i would have done that too (except take my shirt off, i'm a classy lady, LOL)
  • JowDickson
"except take my shirt off, i'm a classy lady"

HAHAHAHAHAHA... Oh man, thank you for that quote right there. Eloquent in its simplicity.
  • sytycdlover
I like Russel but was embarrassed for him. As a medical person, yes, the adrenalin would kick in, but eventually he would limp, be visably uncomfortable or the like. He was totally exagerating his injury. it was evident from the time he came out on stage for the announcements.
  • Happyday
Quoted From Blake Mcgrath's twitter: Jakob Carr was robbed like everyone one on the USA show always is. Sorry OTHER than Jeanine the right person has never won SYTYCD US!
    I totally agree!
  • JowDickson
Um... He loses all credibility with me the moment he suggests that Jeanine was the right person to win S5. Brandon was head and shoulders better than everybody else that season, and frankly Jeanine wasn't even in my Top 3 favorite girls. She had three dances I loved, and a great solo in the final, but that was it.

Jakob should have won, but he wasn't robbed. He danced wonderfully, but I can see how people wouldn't find him engaging. Best dancer? Hands down. Biggest star? No. I think it was Adam who said, "You could have been selfish, but you gave it up to your partner, which is commendable." Later, Nigel said to Ashleigh, "I didn't notice you up there, my eyes were on Russell the entire time." And he was right. Russell was everything in that dance, and it was the sort of performance that makes you say, "Wow! I'd vote for him!"

Sometimes to win you HAVE to be a little selfish, especially without a solo to strut your stuff. Jakob never was (despite choreographers constantly trying to highlight him and his leaps), so I can totally understand how he wouldn't get the votes.
  • emem85
Honestly, I could give two hoots what Blake says...everyone is entitled to their opinion, and this is not Blake's favorite dancer, it is america's ...does he feel a contemporary dancer should always win as well? I'm just wondering if he is a little biased, is all...
  • hijamia13
I just realized that having a Dwight & Desmond choreo is like a "curse". It will be brilliant and you'll have the best male and female dancers but won't win. (Reference from S4) It comes with a price. Hehehe. (Just an observation not necessarily true.) I would've liked kathryn to win though.
  • JJ
Yay Russell--you were my choice from the beginning!! Sorry to hear from the sour grape haters earlier--luckily, I'm sure Jakob and the other top 21 don't share that negativity. They all have good paths in front of them. Thanks for the great site, spoilers and other info.
  • danielLEdda
thanks for making this season better than it could have been sytycdism!
yea, it kinda sucked, but at least you guys made it that much better :)
  • Teener
Trandrew, thank you for making this season even more exciting, the spoilers made the show even more enjoyable to watch. This seasons top four were the best yet!
  • Katy
wow I was really expecting jakob just due to the fact that we haven't had a contemporary boy winner since s1. But Russell completely deserves it and it's so cool to have the first krumper on the show go all the way. imo, I wanted kathryn but knew that wasn't going to happen cause we just had a girl win it all.

but now I'm calling it: billy bell winner of so you think you can dance 7. :P
  • natkatsopmai
I thought it was funny how Russell could barely walk or stand but started jumping arond when he won???? I do not agree that he should have won and he is a TRAINED dancer as he stated in audition in at least 4 other styles. It is not he who lied but the judges every week, he just went along with nonsense and America bought it, just like Joshua who also was a trained dancer but sold to America like he had never heard of Jazz or Contemporary before the show. The only untrained dancer in other styles his season was Legacy but even then is a top professional in his genre. I wanted either Kathryn or Jakob to win last night. I didn't like how they chose routines from the night before in the finale show. There were so many to they could have chosen instead and the best Hip-hop of the season was Kathryn and Legacy week 1 not the nappytabs in the finale.
I do think they should post voting results online. So looking forward to the return of Billy Bell for S7 he tweeted last night he was going to be in it. I hope Wade Robson and Brian Freidman return next season. They also need to do something about the hip-hop as well, the choreography was off this season. Considering there is 2 hip-hops each week pretty bad. Thanks to SYTYCDISM for this seasons updates and spoilers.
  • lilCfan
I think Kathryn should have won on merit (I voted for her), but it's not only merit that people vote on.
  • feelsosad
Jakob should win. I am sorry for him. He is the best, but sadly Americans seldom vote for the best. It's a shame. Jakob made every dance and his partners look good. This reminds me of Katee from season 4. Some people are so naive to buy the no-training crap, almost everybody got the training to compete in this show. They have to prepare themselves to get the chance to be in this show. This is a fact. We should see who did the best through the entire season and the most deserving dancer is Jakob, Kathryn and then Ellenore.
  • lilCfan
Completely agreed, Jakob was the better dancer (I'd argue that so was Kathryn).

However, it's America's FAVORITE dancer, and the judges remind the audience and contestants this every week.

Congrats to Russel, Jakob and Kathryn... they will all get cash rewards, and something tells me we might see more of Jakob.
  • minuet80203
Is there going to be a tour for Season 6? Not one word has been said about.it. Wouldnt be fair to this group if not. Have been on every tour and would hate to miss this one.
  • meenama
In a bid for complete transparency, hope SYTYCD follows the example of the U.K. X Factor and posts (online) complete voting figures for this season.

I feel as sad Jakob didn't win, as I did when Travis was beaten by Benji in an earlier SYTYCD season.
  • Kev
To compare this one with season two is inappropriate. America voted and decided. They both had the same chance. Russell and Jakob were both judges favourites. Most people here are interested in Jazz/Contemporary, so you are all favour Jakob and Kathryn. Russell deserve the win. I'm happy for him.
  • Paul
I don't think it's an inappropriate comment to make. Everyone had favorites, and people are allowed to feel sad that their favorites lost. Not everyone has to be super supportive of the results! I don't feel as if meenama was being rude or insulting in any way.

Jakob's artistry is comparable to Travis, and Russell's charisma and likeability is comparable to Benji. It's a legitimate contrast to draw.
  • Kev
Except that Benji wasn't really challenged on the show like Travis. And to compare this is like saying Russell wasn't challenged too, and that is simply not true. Jakob had far more routines near his style than Russell. And that's a fact. Like I said, they both were judges favourites from the beginning, both did extremly well this season. And both deserve the win, but there can be only one winner and that's Russell.
  • mssteffee
Does anyone know specifically what happened to Russell? How and when did he get hurt?
  • jakeandjasper
watch the interview of him after the show. he explains it all.
  • scaperanya
Hey Andrew et al! I've been lurking for a few weeks now, and I thank you for all the spoilers! Sorry Jakob didn't win. It has been an amazing season of dance for sure! Keep it up, and already looking forward to S7!
  • AlexandraL
Thank you for everything, SYTYCDISM! I am sincerely grateful for this site. I stumbled across you guys towards the end of Season 5, searching for spoilers. I'm so glad I found you. I've rejoiced with you all on Twitter when Jeanine won, watched you gather spoilers for Season 6, shared my outrage with IDF when you revealed Billy Bell was ill, and felt the disappointment tonight. I love you guys!
