Opinion: Which new choreographer(s) should SYTYCD bring in?!

Submitted by SYTYCDism on October 25, 2009 – 1:28 pmView Comments

The SYTYCDism Choreographers Wishlist

Edit: So I guess I’m ending this now. Notable mentions include Brice Mousset, Amanda Tae and Marinda Davis. (Sorry I couldn’t edit the polls!) Will include these names and the above results when I try and forward this to production somehow! Fingers crossed!
Edit: Polls up for hip hop/jazz and contemporary! I can’t guarantee they’ll get hired, but some publicity wouldn’t hurt right?
Edit: Wow, feedback has been great, keep them coming!
Edit: I think I’ll gather names and then see which ones are the most popular, then weed out the names and make an actual poll for each category so we can see the statistics.

I know ever since Mia resigned, a lot of people have been discussing different choreographers that SYTYCD & Co. should check out and bring in to choreograph, so I decided to make a formalized post to kind of organize all these ideas.

Just post choreographers’ names and styles, and perhaps links to their works, and then I will kind of make a tally as the comments go to see which choreographers are most popular and in-demand, and then send off the results to Nigel or something. Hahaha, discuss away!

We’re not asking for them to be like judges or anything. I just think the show’s main premise is based on introducing dance to the general public, and what better way to do that than introduce new and exciting choreographers!? I would love to see new faces every so often!

Justin Giles and/or Dana Metz would be amazing on this show! Justin Giles teaches at NUVO, a big dance convention and Dana Metz is the Choreographer for Initial Existence, where Kaitlyn Conly dances at.

Heres Justin Giles himself (he's in the back):

You guys have to add this name to the list!!!!!
CANDICE SIMPSON for Hip-hop from Montreal...her style is so different and unique and I think it would really add a new element to the show!

I'm so happy someone brought her name up! I was going to post the same thing. If you don't already know who she is, you HAVE to check out Candice Simpson! She's so unique and special and would truly be an asset to this show! People above have mentioned a lack of standout choreography on the show, and I have a feeling Candice would be what this show needs this season...
  • I'd also like to see choreo from S4 alum Mark Kanemura … since he's touring with Lady Gaga, I'd settle for some other quirky Hawaiian choreographer that has influenced all the quirky Hawaiian contestants we've seen on SYTYCD US.
  • Kelley Abbey (pop/jazz) needs to be on this list. Her SYTYCD AU s2 top 20 group routine to "Let Me Think About It" was one of the best routines ever created for SYTYCD.
  • Margaret
sho-tyme and luther brown would be awesome while shane is doing the dreamgirls tour, dave scott isn't always available and sho-tyme and luther have done some awesome pieces on SYTYCD Canada. Vicky Lambert is also a great afro-jazz choreographer. and Nico the winner of SYTYCD Canada S1 would be fantastic!
  • lana
I'm afraid that I'll be on youtube for a long time looking up all these names before I vote. Looking forward to it. The problem this season, for me, has been a lack of any standout choreography. The dancers can only do so much with what they are given so if the choreo is lackluster than the dance won't be much. New fresh talent may be part of the thing needed to revamp this (almost stale) show.

Brice Mousset would be amazing for contemporary... I love his movement, style and the way he influences the quality of movement with dancers. He brings them to a whole new level! I love him!!
